Lillafüred State Forest Railroad

The Lillafüred Railway runs from Miskolc on Dorottya Street in one of the most beautiful and diverse areas of the country coursing through the western part of the Bükk Region among the mountains. After the Budapest Children's Railway, the Lillafüred State Forest Railway is the busiest railway in Hungary.

Its most popular stop is Lillafüred, with its fairy tale beauty by the Palace Hotel (Palotaszallo) and the Hanging Gardens. Garadna is the final stop on the route and is a popular destination for excursions, hiking, and recreation.

There is also access to the Lillafüred Trout Farm and the Fazola Ancient Blast Furnace; the former from Central Garadna stop, the latter at Fazola Ancient Blast Stop.

The railroad was originally built for freight transport, and was only used for passenger transport later on. The first passenger car was introduced in 1923.

During the nearly one-hundred-year history of the small railway, it has had several wings which have since ceased to exist, e.g., the Tatarar wing, the Kerekhegyi wing, the Ládi wing line, and the Tardona wing line. Of the former wings, Mahóca is the only one to survive on special occasions where hiking trains are used today.
