Bethlen Memorial Road

The Bethlen Memorial Road was the first tourist route in the Bükk Mountains, opened by the Hungarian Tourist Association in July of 1892.

The original hiking trail connected the contemporary bath of Diosgyor with the villa complex in Hamor. At the time, the historic hiking trail followed the railroad that did not yet exist. The hiking trail was about 8 km long and could be completed in an hour and a half.

The first official hiking trail no longer exists due to the creation of the forest railroad track. Instead, a memorial road was created starting from the Diosgyor Castle. The hiking trail leads through Feherkolapa (”Marsh of the White Stone”) to Lillafured via the metallurgical route and the Elizabeth Promenade.
