Miller’s Rock

Marked with a cross as it overlooks the picturesque Szinva Valley and Hamor, the Miller’s Rock is a popular lookout point in the Bukk Mountains. It is one of the stops on the Szinva Nature Trail next to the Szeleta Cave.

The cross on the cliff holds the memory of long lost lovers. Several local legends are associated with this rock. According to one, the miller’s daughter was to be married to a rich landlord. However, she was in love with a poor miller. Her father would not let her marry the poor lad; so the young couple jumped off the cliff in desparation. According to another tale, after finding out that his young bride was unfaithful, it was the old miller who cast himself off the cliff.

In the valley, two water mills were still in operation during the two World Wars. The cliff sits at 314 meters (1,030 feet) above sea level.
