Diósgyőr Roman Catholic Church – Church of the Virgin Mary

The Roman Catholic Church of Diósgyőr, Church of the Virgin Mary, is one of the outstanding buildings of the district. The Baroque style church is located on Puskás Tivadar Street; although the building originates in medieval times. Its unique feature is the exterior pillars.

The church belonged to the Reformed Church in 1564 but later was returned to the Catholic Church in the middle of the 18th century.

The church displays special Baroque furnishing. Another distinguishing feature is the one-meter statue of the Virgin Mary carved by Pauline monks dating back to the 15th century. The helmet design of the church tower was added in the 19th century.

In the courtyard stands the statue of Jesus nearby the Immaculate Conception.

The church can be visited during worship services.
