City Hall
The City Hall in Miskolc is a monumental building built in a romantic style located at No. 8 City Hall Square. New additions were added later on, and most recently in the early 2010s, a completely new addition was built from Hunyadi Street consisting of a building complex designed by József Viszlai.
The first town hall of Miskolc from the middle of the 17th century was a simple, poorly built structure that stood on the same spot.
The new city hall was erected on the old site around 1762. We don't know much about the design, but sources already called it City Hall. The building stood for 80 years but fell victim to a fire in 1843.
In 1868, Károly Farkas Losonczi proposed the construction of a new city hall. The first ceremonial stone was laid on March 26, 1870. The building was designed by Lajos Czakó, chief engineer. The master builder was Ede Klein.
Several events and exhibitions are held in the Main Hall.
