Forestry Palace

The Forestry Palace is located at No. 1 Deák tér. It is the dominant building of Deák Square. It has a unique architecture in Miskolc, as well as in the country.

Built in 1929 in the Neo-Renaissance style of the Highlands, at the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture, the building was designed by György Lehoczky and Sándor Papp. One of its inspirations was the Thurzo House in Lőcse (Levoča in Slovakia).

In 1939, the palace received an addition. A striking feature of the building is the statue of Patrona Hungariae on the southwest corner. The Hungarian Coat of Arms overgrown with thorns at the feet of the Madonna refers to the Trianon dictated peace. The original statue was the work of Gyula Betlen and Sándor Gabay. The currently displayed work is a copy of the original.

The interior of the building is not open to the public.
