Ferenc Deák Square

Just northwest of Heroes’ Square lies Miskolc's lesser-known but very pleasant Deák Square, formerly nicknamed the Small Folks’ Garden and Priory Square. In the Middle Ages there was a church and a cemetery here.

Currently, it is surrounded by several well-known buildings. One is the Neo-Renaissance Forestry Palace designed by György Lehoczky. In the center of the square is Ferenc Deák’s statue, which has stood there since October 1925; hence the square bearing his name. The statue is the work of Aladár Gárdos.

The square overlooks the Hungarian Orthodox Museum and the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, as well as the Feledy House.

Standing on the square overlooking the parking strip from Palóczy Street is the statue of József Lévay, the work of Dezső Borsodi Bindász.
