St. Stephen’s Square
St. Stephen's Square is centrally located in the heart of the city bordered by the Avas Hill, Széchenyi Street and several buildings. It was named after its main feature; the statue of St. Stephen, Hungary’s founding king, Zsolt Jószay’s art work. The Avas Lookout Tower is a great backdrop for the statue. The Flower Clock is another great design feature which accurately keeps track of time. In the winter during Advent, the square is decorated with the city’s huge Advent wreath. A more recent addition to the landscape is the giant letter group that reads ”MISKOLC”; thus making this a popular photo opportunity for locals and tourists alike.
The square is often home to many city gatherings, events, holidays, and concerts. It is also a frequent rest stop due to its great location, ample seating, and open space.
