The Parks of Miskolctapolca

The park system of Miskolctapolca is designed as an arboretum, rich in native species, neighboring the Miskolctapolca Cave Bath.

At its center is the boating lake with several small islands. One is called the legendary ”Island of Love”.

The lake was fed by natural spring water with a temperature of 18 Celcius (64.5 Fahrenheit). The River Hejő originates from this spring. During warmer weather, the lake is covered with blooming water lilies. Along the water’s edge is the alder plant and the remaining spring marsh, along with the old pedunculate oak tree.

The park of Miskolctapolca was originally planted in the 1920s using the exotic trees and bushes from the abbey originating in the Árpád Kings’ era making the arboretum especially valuable and hence protected.
