The Lourdes Cave
The Lourdes Cave is one of the stops on the Maria Promenade in Lillafüred. It is a well-known shrine, built in the late 1920s, when the splendid landscaping was designed around the Palace Hotel along with walkways near the cave.
The shrine consists of a statue of Mary, an archway made of freshwater limestone bricks lined with calcite, and stairs leading to it.
The original statue of Mary of Lourdes, of which several copies have been made in Hungary (including Lillafüred) is located in the town of Lourdes at the foot of the Pyrenees. The original sculpture is associated with marvelous legends and incredible healing power.
