Attila József Statue

The statue of Attila József was created by Éva Varga on the poet’s 100th birthday. It was revealed in Lillafüred on April 10th, 2005, located in the Hanging Gardens of the Palace Hotel (Palotaszallo). The full figure bronze statue of the poet is leaning against the wall, eyes closed, as if in a daydream. The backdrop for the sculpture is the country's tallest waterfall that plunges into the abyss. Next to the statue, carved in stone, is one of his most famous and most beautiful poems, The Ode.

This beautiful place was chosen for the statue to commemorate the poet. It is where he wrote these famous lines in Lillafüred in 1933 while at a writer's conference.

The statue is one of the main venues where the celebrations of the National Day of Poetry in Miskolc take place. Wreaths and flowers are often placed around the bronze memorial in honor of Attila József.
