St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church

The St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church is a neo-classical, late Baroque building on St. Anna's Square in Miskolc. It was formerly known as the Red Church for its bright red roof shingles, which were replaced by slate in the 20th century reminiscent of the original roof color.

The foundation stone was laid in 1816 and construction continued until 1818, and the interior design work lasted until 1820. It was consecrated in 1823. Its altarpiece depicts St. Anne, work of an unknown painter from the 19th century. The organ is the work of József Angster's workshop.

Róza Déryné Széppataki and Lieb Cecília, sister of Munkácsy Mihály, both rest in the church’s cemetery.

Next to the church is the memorial of the 1878 flood which was built in 1928.

The city’s first tramline, as well as the Lillafured Railway used to go by in front of the church.

The church is open for worship.
