Ottó Herman Memorial House
The summer cottage of Ottó Herman in Lillafüred is dedicated to the last great Hungarian scientist, a jack of all trades, Ottó Herman. Ottó Herman wore many hats; he was a zoologist, ethnographer, archeologist, and a politician all in one. The cottage is also known as Pelehaz (Pele House). The house was built between 1898 and 1903 as part of a newly developed resort complex.
The museum's first permanent exhibition opened in 1964. In 2007 the house underwent renovations.
The two rooms of the exhibition presents the life and works of the scientiest and politician with objects arranged representing Otto Herman's attachment to Hámor and Lillafüred. In the first room, the original furniture of the Peleház is on display with the scientist's authentic personal belongings, letters and manuscripts. The second room pays tribute to Ottó Herman's numerous scientific achievements with a great many illustrations and spectacular fishing dioramas. From spring to fall, the garden hosts a series of lively educational programs.
